It is the ancient name of the Aegean Sea. Archipelago means sea of islands. The name Archipel was used in ancient times to mean “Old Sea.” The Aegean Sea and The Turks first met in 1081 and named this sea as “Islands Sea.”After this period, this sea is referred as “Islands Sea” in Aydınoğulları and Ottoman Sources.
